While Disney World puts a lot of effort into celebrating holidays in their parks and on their grounds, nothing compares to the extravaganza they display for the Christmas holiday season.
Disney World Christmas: Dazzling Displays and a Great Party
The display of holiday lighting throughout Disney World during the festive Christmas season is simply amazing and awe-inspiring. Nowhere is this awe more inspired than at Cinderella’s Castle. According to his blog at Disney World’s official site, Thomas Smith tells us that there are over 200,000 lights adorning the castle, which gives it the appearance of being “dipped in sugar”. It takes a mere 18 miles of electrical cable to bring the lights together. Maybe most amazingly, is that the whole display runs on the current required for three clothes dryers!
During the Christmas holiday season, Disney puts on “Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party”. This is a night time show that requires a separate ticket, but it is a truly fun, special event. Their special, themed fireworks display at the party is called, “Holiday Wishes: Celebrate the Spirit of the Season”. – And it truly does.
At the party, the greatly shortened lines at the rides and attractions are a plus, but no more so than the simple magic of the “snow” falling on The Magic Kingdom’s Main Street in central Florida. The snow is actually small soap bubbles, but the effect is truly Disney magic at work.
Disney World Christmas: Candlelight and a Spectacle of Lights
During the Christmas holiday season, Disney World’s Epcot Park hosts the “Candlelight Processional”. This show features a talented, huge choir, backed by a live orchestra. A celebrity narrator helps tell the story of Christmas in words and music. It’s quite a moving performance.
At Disney World’s Hollywood Studios Park, the Christmas holidays bring the “ Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights ”. This display coordinates a seemingly endless display of lights, flashing and rotating in time to great Christmas songs. The display takes place at The Streets of America section of Epcot. Even in the daytime, during non-holiday months, this is an interesting area. During the Christmas holiday, however, it really explodes into a world of fascination.
Disney World Christmas: All the Rest
These are some of the highlights of the Christmas holiday at Disney World, but there are many somewhat smaller, but no less festive attractions. There is “Mickey’s Jingle Jungle Parade” which festively winds its way through the Animal Kingdom Park.
At Disney World’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground, there is a 25 minute “sleigh” ride around the area that you can enjoy. This has a separate ticket price, but it’s a lot of fun, especially for a whole family. The ride departs every 30 minutes during the evening hours.
At Disney World’s Hollywood Studios Park, “The Hollywood Holly-Day Parade” hits the streets. This is just another opportunity to celebrate the Christmas season with one of Disney World’s always top-notch parades.
While staying at Disney World, during the holidays or any other time of year, you might want to check out the fabulous character breakfast at the Ohana restaurant.
